When you hire a car from Edinburgh Car Rental the price that you pay will, in the majority of cases, include insurance coverage which helps to protect you in the unfortunate event of an accident, theft of the car and from personal liability. We also include any charges for premium rental locations such as Edinburgh Airport along with all VAT and taxes. You also get an unlimited mileage allowance for the car, unless otherwise specified, and will benefit from knowing that the car will be covered by breakdown assistance in the event of mechanical problems. It is important to check exactly what is included with the vehicle before making a booking as this can vary depending upon car category and your chosen car hire location. Insurance excesses will apply just like any standard car insurance policy. You will be able to see what is included with your preferred car during the search and booking process.

How old do I need to be to rent a car in Edinburgh?
The minimum age for renting a car is 21 years old. However, some car categories will only be available to those aged over 23 and those aged over 25. At some rental locations, a young driver charge may be applied to drivers who are aged between 21 and 24 years old (normally £10 per day), this will be noted at time of booking and is normally payable when you collect the car.
Where do I collect and drop off my car?
We offer car hire at a wide range of locations around Edinburgh and the Lothians. The details of where you should collect and drop off your car can be seen during the booking process and will also be detailed on your car hire voucher once your booking has been made. Our easy to use booking system will allow you to filter out any vehicles avalable from rental locations that you do not wish to use, helping you to refine your search.
Who provides your cars?
We work with the leading car rental brands in Edinburgh which includes Alamo, Avis, Hertz, Thrifty and others to guarantee rental car availability and offer the best possible range of car sizes and specifications. Car manufacturers include Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Vauxhall and Volkswagen amongst others.
What are your opening hours?
Opening hours vary depending upon each different car hire location. You will be able to find the opening hours of a location during the booking process or on your car hire voucher after you have made a booking.
When does my payment get taken?
Usually we take a small deposit (normally 15%, although the exact amount will be shown in the booking engine) from your credit or debit card at time of booking. Any remaining balance is payable by credit or debit card on collection of the car, directly to your chosen rental location.
What should I bring when I collect my rental car?
You will need to bring your full driving licence (both photocard and paper part if you have a new style licence) along with a minimum of two forms of identification which must show your current address and another form of photographic identification (example - two utility bills and your passport). You must also bring a valid credit or debit card which will be used to pay for and take a deposit for the car when you collect it.
Can I add an additional driver to my car?
Yes, you can add up to 4 additional drivers to your car. In most cases there is a surcharge for this which is usually payable at the rental desk. If you've forgotten to add an additional driver when you made your booking, don't worry as you will be able to add the driver at the rental desk. Additional drivers should bring the same documents as the main driver (which are noted above).
Can I rent a satellite navigation system with my car hire?
Yes, you can rent a satellite navigation system with your car hire. You can either select this option during the booking process or add it to your car hire at the rental desk (we recommend you select this option when you book you car as satellite navigation is subject to availability).
I need to rent a car for business purposes, can you provide a VAT receipt?
You will be provided with a full VAT invoice/receipt at the rental desk when you collect your rental car.
